Welcome to the new StroopWoffle blog!

Hey. I’m Jenifer, artist/illustrator/designer of all things StroopWoffle. The earlier incarnation of this site felt a bit… anonymous, so I’m going to do what I can to personalize things a bit more here, so that you don’t think this site is just some faceless squadron of illustration drones overseen by Dutch robots.

What’s with the “stroopwoffle” thing?
I’ve had an existing website for my long history in fine art and arts education, but that site was already an umbrella for too many other endeavors. I wanted to simplify, and give my new-ish business its own identity. Aaand, since my last name sounds a lot like “waffle”, I thought I’d have a little fun with this. Also because, if you’ve read the “ABOUT” section on the site, you’d know that I’m obsessed with real stroopwafels, the kind made in Holland. They are about the most divine things I’ve ever eaten in my life. Sigh.

Why blog, though?
It keeps me on my toes, and gives you something more to chew on when you’re lurking around the site. This is going to be a bit of a grab-bag:  a little about StroopWoffle’s ongoing projects, a little about me, a little about real stroop wafels, and regular postings on sketches and doodles I’m working on, project-related or not. I’ll probably occasionally post about interesting illustration, design, and print work that I’m really thrilled by. I’ve been an artist for what seems like forever, but the worlds of design and illustration still feel really fresh and new to me, so every day, I’m finding myself discovering a lot of great work for the first time, and I want to have an excuse to share it with you.

Um, and don't you make illustrations, or something?
Right. Yes. Getting to that. Yup, I make illustrations and create graphic design. That's why this site exists. Stroopwoffle is where you should come for illustration and design (naturally!), particularly if you're looking for custom illustrations for your wedding or special occasion. I'm happy to work with a wide array of clients, of course, but I do have a soft spot for personalized work.

So how does the whole "custom wedding/occasion illustration" thing work?
Well, the detailed version is in the ABOUT section of this site. The short version is: you send me a few really clear photos of yourself that I use as references, and then I make an illustration from whichever one seems best suited for the occasion. We agree on a timeline, we email about it and I send you drafts while it's in progress, and then you get a file that you can do whatever you want with. Voila!

Anything else?
Oh, goodness. Plenty. But not just this second.
